They received reports of a windsurfer in difficulty in Fleetwood
Volunteer lifeboat crews from Fleetwood RNLI were paged at 2.01pm on Sunday and prepared to launch the charity’s D-class inshore lifeboat, D-853 Harbet.
The alarm was raised after HM Coastguard’s Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Holyhead received reports of a windsurfer struggling near the NCI Fleetwood watchtower at Rossall Point. RNLI volunteers joined colleagues from HM Coastguard Fleetwood in responding to the incident. But just minutes later, at around 2.15pm, crews were stood down after the windsurfer managed to make it back to shore safely and unaided.saying: "Callout Sunday 17th May 2026.
This afternoon our RNLI Fleetwood volunteer inshore lifeboat crew were paged at 14:01 to launch our charities D-class inshore lifeboat.
"Our RNLI volunteer crew was tasked along with our colleagues from HM Coastguard Fleetwood, when the HM Coastguard Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre at Holyhead, received reports of a windsurfer in difficulty near to the NCI Fleetwood watch tower at Rossall Point. "At 14:15 just as our inshore lifeboat D-853 'Harbet' was about launch, our volunteer crew were stood down as the windsurfer had made it ashore unaided, safe and well. "
