JOGMEC seeks clean metals for Japan's battery industry
Lifezone Metals has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security to secure cleaner metals from the Kabanga nickel project in Tanzania for Japan's battery industry.Lifezone aims to use its hydromet technology to produce nickel, copper and cobalt with fewer emissions than traditional pyrometallurgical smelting methods.
to facilitate the supply of metals from Kabanga through Lifezone's portion of marketing rights for Japan's growing battery market, ensuring a sustainable and traceable metals value chain. will consider providing financial support for Japanese companies upon submission of an application for the Japanese Government funding support programme.

BHP also owns 1.5% of Lifezone, having invested US$100 million since 2021.Kabanga hosts measured and indicated resources of 62.6Mt grading 2.02% nickel, 0.28% copper and 0.16% cobalt for a 2.57% nickel equivalent.
