NRL: Alex Johnston suffers a possible season ending achilles injury in South Sydneys loss to the Canberra Raiders.
The Broncos’ season is all but over after a shock loss to a depleted Bulldogs side. It’s a dramatic fall from grace for a star-studded side that had one hand on the premiership last season.
Fox League expert analyst Cooper Cronk believes the Broncos’ season is over after they were flogged 41-16 by the Bulldogs at Suncorp Stadium. “One win in their last eight they are in dire straits after almost winning that grand final last year,” Cronk said. “That team is going to have to do something absolutely magical to make the finals but tough year for the Broncos and the heat is going to come their way.”
“They’ve got a bye thankfully but when you talk about defence it’s all around your middle attitude and application to it all. Feagai failed his HIA but was deemed to be displaying category two symptoms, which means he’s still a chance of being named for the Dragons’ Round 22 clash with the Storm. A report emerged over the weekend linking Valentine Holmes to the Dragons after the Origin star was given permission by the Cowboys to test his value on the open market.
And with Cameron Munster getting through his side’s 32-14 victory over the Eels unscathed in his first game back since Magic Round, former NRL hardman James Graham believes the Storm have several more gears to go. Munster was solid in his first hit out since May 19 after suffering a groin injury in Round 11 in the Storm’s 48-16 win over the Eels.
“In a strange way, he hasn’t played since Magic Round, but to have that middle part of the season off, and we spoke about it with Cleary, just how refreshed and energised he’s going to be at the back end of the season. “He made four or five massive plays tonight that no one else makes. Like to save tries, seriously those are guaranteed tries and he put his body on the line and saved three probably.
Canterbury-Bankstown were sensational in their 41-16 flogging of a desperate Broncos outfit, who were fighting for their season in front of 42,000 fans at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday. “You heard Reed mention that in their off-season they worked as hard as ever and they kicked off the year defensively really well.”
After his players did exactly that, Fox League’s Corey Parker declared the performance a “coaching masterclass” by Ciraldo. “Our coaching staff in particular have put a lot of time and effort into making sure our attack is evolving and Jason Taylor has done a really good job there especially over the last couple of weeks.
“I think you could tell the Roosters were stung by the criticism that came their way after their Melbourne performance,” he said. What should have been a resounding win, turned into an unnecessary nervous watch for Roosters fans in the final ten minutes, who were able to hold out the Sea Eagles and record the victory.
“I was pretty speechless, and we were pretty convincing until we threw it away in the last 20 minutes through a few tries. The Roosters will have to fix up a few things defensively if they want to contest with the top sides. The Roosters’ best is certainly good enough to topple both Melbourne and Penrith, but at this stage, there are still plenty that needs to be fixed if that’s to happen according to halfback Sam Walker.“All of their tries were soft tries that we shouldn’t be letting in, there’s lots of work to do before we head to Perth .
“I’m disappointed in the fact we’re not executing and it’s killing us,” Bennett said after the loss to the Gold Coast. Fox League’s Michael Ennis said it was a “nasty” loss for the Dolphins, adding that Bennett’s men have now put themselves “under enormous pressure” to produce down the stretch.
