Actress Lili Reinhart has publicly opened up about her ongoing health struggles , revealing that she has been diagnosed with interstitial cystitis (IC), also known as bladder pain syndrome. This diagnosis came after years of experiencing mysterious symptoms that doctors initially believed were related to an autoimmune disorder or a lingering infection.
Reinhart shared her story in an interview with Self magazine and on her Instagram, detailing the impact these health issues have had on her life. The actress explained that the past four years have been particularly challenging, starting with a COVID-19 infection during the production of season five of Riverdale. She reported persistent fatigue, which worsened with subsequent COVID infections, and was initially concerned about potential chronic fatigue syndrome. Reinhart underwent numerous tests, including those for Celiac disease and Crohn's disease, to pinpoint the cause of her symptoms. In 2022, Reinhart began experiencing gut issues and unexplained weight gain, adding to her list of concerns. Her symptoms escalated further in July 2023 while filming in Germany, when she developed a urinary tract infection (UTI). Seeking immediate medical attention, she went to a hospital and underwent a urinalysis, ultimately leading to her IC diagnosis. Reinhart emphasized the importance of advocating for oneself when it comes to health, drawing inspiration from her grandmother's experience with ovarian cancer. She was moved to share her story after her grandmother was initially dismissed by doctors despite exhibiting clear signs of the disease. It wasn't until her grandmother fought for her own health that she received a blood test confirming the diagnosis, by which time the cancer had spread. Reinhart's experience highlights the need for patients to be proactive and persistent in seeking answers and treatment for their health concerns. She hopes that by sharing her story, she can encourage others who are struggling to find answers to feel seen and supported
