Linda Robson has revealed the heartbreaking impact of Pauline Quirke's dementia diagnosis, stating that her lifelong friend no longer recognizes her. The Birds of a Feather star shared her concerns about Quirke's declining memory and the rumors of a falling out between them.
Television personality Linda Robson , renowned for her long-running role in the classic sitcom Birds of a Feather, has shared a heartbreaking update about her lifelong friend and beloved co-star Pauline Quirke . Struggling with dementia, Pauline, at 65, now experiences memory loss so severe that she no longer recognizes Linda, despite their 56-year friendship. Speaking candidly to Express.co.
uk at the TV Choice Awards on Monday, Linda confided, 'It was three years ago so I've lived with it for three years as the family have as well. She was so bright and so clever. It can happen to anybody, can't it? ' The heart-breaking progression of Pauline's condition is evident as Linda remarked, 'I have noticed a real difference with her; she doesn't remember her grandchildren so she's not going to remember who I am even though we've been friends 56 years. It really is sad.' Their story takes a poignant turn amidst prior rumours of a falling-out. The Loose Women panellist, aged 66, addressed these speculations, saying: 'People say Pauline and I have fallen out.' 'Obviously, I couldn't see her during lockdown, but I've seen her since. She just doesn't want to act anymore. She's had enough – it's long hours,' Linda shared. Linda Robson recently opened up to The Mirror about the unwavering support she received from her co-stars during tough times: 'But when I was ill, both Pauline and Lesley rang me, or a member of my family, every couple of days to see how I was. They were both a big support and really there for me.'. The strong camaraderie among the 'Birds of a Feather' cast shines through in these gestures. Reflecting on Pauline's diagnosis, Maurice Gran, who co-created the beloved sitcom 'Birds of a Feather', divulged to The Mirror his deep concern: 'Since the diagnosis, her condition has gathered pace.' His sympathy was palpable when he added, 'She's still only 65, so your heart goes out to her. At first, she felt she was beginning to lose her grip. Now, we understand she struggles to identify members of her own family.' He highlighted the depth of her talent by saying, 'I've always said that Pauline's talent made our words sound better. It couldn't be sadder.' Earlier this year, in a profoundly sombre moment, Pauline's partner Steve Sheen conveyed her decision to gracefully bow out from her luminous career in the entertainment industry, after grappling with her dementia diagnosis since 2021. In a heartfelt declaration, he announced, 'It is with a heavy heart that I announce my wife Pauline's decision to step back from all professional and commercial duties due to her diagnosis of Dementia in 2021.
