The Mets took their first series of the 2024 season, defeating the Cincinnati Reds 3-1 on Sunday afternoon at Great American Ballpark.

Lindor’s big day provided a breakout of sorts. The star shortstop started the season 1-for-31 at the plate which included an 0-for-24 slump entering Sunday’s series finale in Cincinnati. Playing smaller than small ball in the second, the Mets generated a second run without making meaningful contact with a full swing of a bat. Starling Marte led off the frame with a walk before Jeff McNeil and Tyrone Taylor executed consecutive bunt singles — the first time since 2010 that the Mets had done so — to load the bases with two outs.
Lindor put the Mets up three in the fourth inning when he socked his first home run of the season into the left-field seats. Batting from the right side of the plate, he was able to turn on a 2-1 fastball.Manaea managed to wriggle his way out of jams in the fourth and fifth innings to preserve a second straight solid start to his Mets career. After needing just 23 pitches to get through the first two innings, he needed 69 to get from the third through the fifth.
