A taste comparison between Lindt and Aldi's Christmas chocolate figures.
Each Christmas brings a plethora of festive snacks and sweet treats, one of the many delights of the season. It's a time for indulgence and I fully intend to make the most of it. In the lead up to December, numerous brands and shops unveil their Christmas-themed chocolate products and this year is no exception. The renowned Swiss company Lindt, famed for its high-quality chocolate crafted from the finest ingredients, is a favourite among many.
A large number of people are likely to discover at least one box of its incredibly popular Lindor truffles, available in a variety of rich, luxurious flavours, under their Christmas tree. Likewise, its hollow, gold-foil wrapped chocolate figures are a staple during the festive period. This year, its cherished Gold Teddy, available in various sizes, has dominated many supermarket shelves, while I've found it tricky to track down its festive Reindeer and chocolate Santa. Not to be outdone, Aldi has launched its own festive figurines this Christmas and I was eager to see how they compared to Lindt. Aldi is well known for its brilliant dupes of other companies' products. It wasn't all that long ago the budget-friendly retailer found itself in a dispute with Marks and Spencer after its Cuthbert the Caterpillar cakes were deemed too similar to M&S's iconic Colin the Caterpillar. In 2021, M&S initiated legal action against Aldi, alleging the latter’s product infringed on its trademark. This led to both parties reaching a 'confidential agreement' outside court. During a recent visit to Aldi, I couldn't spot any chocolate teddy bears among the stuffed shelves, but I did come across its Dairyfine Milk Chocolate Reindeer priced at an attractive 89p for 105g. I managed to find the Lindt Milk Chocolate Teddy at Asda, where it cost £3 for 100g.
