The NHS defines sepsis as a life-threatening reaction to an infection. In a case of sepsis the body's immune system overreacts to an infection and starts to damage it's own tissue. Symptoms of the condition in babies and young children include difficulty breathing, blue, pale or blotchy skin, tongue or lips and a rash that doesn’t fade when you roll a glass over it.
