Manchester City news as Erling Haaland's failure to win the Ballon d'Or this year has attracted some interesting comments
Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker have discussed how and why Inter Miami star Lionel Messi was able to win the Ballon d'Or over Manchester City striker Erling Haaland.
Manager Guardiola claimed that despite not winning the award, Haaland was still delighted to be surrounded by so many historic names and talents at the ceremony. He said: "I would say that I saw him so happy to be a contender close with Messi and Mbappe. Now pundits and former England strikers Shearer and Lineker have given their thoughts on the results of the award show, with Shearer believing it was hard to see how Haaland didn't win the award. Speaking on The Rest Is Football Podcast, he asked: "What was the feeling like in the room Gary when Lionel Messi won the Ballon d’Or?
"The journalists vote for it, but I suppose the thing is they said before the World Cup that would be taken into account and if it had happened this year just before the vote, there wouldn’t have been one single person saying that he shouldn’t win it. "It was the best ever wasn’t it, that game. And how it all turned out and his performance and everything else, it was just ridiculous."
