Inter Miami are leading the Philadelphia Union 3-0 at half-time of the Leagues Cup semi-final after goals by Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba and Josef Martinez.
Argentina national team manager and World Cup winner Lionel Scaloni has pushed back on the notion that Major League Soccer lacks quality.
Scaloni was in Miami for the Argentina Football Federation’s official announcement regarding their planned North American expansion. The 45-year-old World Cup-winning coach attended Inter Miami’s recent 4-0 win over Charlotte FC, which qualified Lionel Messi’s side for the Leagues Cup semifinals. In Scaloni’s availability with the gathered media, a reporter commented that MLS does not have the quality that Argentines are accustomed to, and questioned the league’s competitiveness.
“I don’t think the level is bad,” Scaloni said. “On the contrary, I was at Inter Miami’s game versus Charlotte and I didn’t think it was bad. In fact the level was acceptable. Every football match is difficult. You have to play them. There’s no doubt that is a league that’s trending up. It’s improving and it’s attracting footballers to come and play here."
