Places that were previously free are now chargeable and there has been an increase in parking prices in other locations
It will cost at least £1 to park on 139 Wirral roads next year after sweeping parking charges were approved by Wirral Council last week. A decision by councillors means new charges are set to be introduced on seven new roads while fees will increase on 132. Most of the roads are situated in the Birkenhead Controlled Parking Zone which covers many of the roads in Birkenhead town centre.
Alongside the roads it already charges for on-street parking, the local authority will also be introducing the same charges in West Kirby , New Brighton , Wallasey , Hoylake and Meols on seven roads. This decision on December 3 was made despite opposition from community groups in West Kirby and New Brighton. The charges will be the same both with onstreet and offstreet parking where the council currently charges with on-street permits of £720 a year.
