Areas including Clifton and Retford could be affected by flooding
Six flood alerts are in place across Nottinghamshire as river levels are set to remain high for days. The Environment Agency says areas ranging from Clifton to Retford could be affected by flooding on Tuesday .
The agency issues three types of flood warning, with a flood alert meaning that flooding is possible and that people should prepare. There are then flood warnings, when flooding is expected, and severe flood warnings, when flooding could cause a risk to life and significant disruption to communities.
There are no flood warnings or severe flood warnings for Nottinghamshire, but two flood alerts are in place. On the alert for the River Trent in particular, the Environment Agency says: "River levels are rising at the Colwick and Clifton Bridge river gauges as a result of heavy rainfall. Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland is possible early tomorrow morning.
"Areas most at risk are low-lying agricultural land and roads including communities near to the River Trent, Queens Drive Park and Ride and Stoke Lane at Stoke Bardolph, Caythorpe road and Hoveringham road, and cellars of low-lying properties at Cavendish Bridge. Further rainfall is forecast over the next 24 hours.
