'It's for the Spice Girls, the Sugababes, All Saints and Girls Aloud'
Little Mix sure have had an amazing few days. First, Leigh-Anne Pinnock announced she was expecting a baby - and then so did bandmate Perrie Edwards. But now, Leigh-Anne, Perrie and Jade Thirlwall have made history at the Brit Awards, becoming the first girl band to ever win the coveted trophy. 'Guys we have just made history. I am really emotional,' Perrie started.
And, sweetly, Leigh-Anne gave their former bandmate Jesy, who left the group last year, a shoutout. 'We have been together for ten years, we have been through so much, we have had so much fun,' she said. 'We want to thank our amazing fans and of course Jesy.' Leigh-Anne continued, speaking about some of the issues the group has faced in the industry - including sexism and racism. 'It's not easy being a female in the UK pop industry. We have seen white male dominance, misogyny, sexism and lack of diversity,' she said. 'We are proud of how we have stuck together, stood our ground and surrounded ourselves with strong women and are now using our voices more than ever.
The group also took the time to pay tribute to the girl groups before them, saying: 'It's for the Spice Girls, the Sugababes, All Saints and Girls Aloud.' Obviously, fans were delighted at their win - and many people in the entertainment industry congratulated them. Drag queen Cheryl Hole tweeted, 'Little Mix are absolute icons. Doing it for all the outstanding GIRL GROUPS! Well done my divas making history.
It's not Little Mix's first Brit, but it is their first win without Jesy. In 2017, they won best single for Shout Out To My Ex, and in 2019 they won best video for Woman Like Me featuring Nicki Minaj.
