Australia started the third Test strongly, but will need to continue to bat well on a raging turner of a pitch in order to press home its advantage. Follow the ball-by-ball updates in our live blog.
Thu 2 Mar 2023 at 3:56amThe biggest talking point of the first day was the frankly appalling state of the pitch.
Former India Test player Aakash Chopra told ESPN Cricinfo that there was "an inherent problem with a surface that is a rank turner from day one".There were 14 wickets that fell on day one, all to the spinners. Ajit Agarkar just called it a day four pitch on day one in the host broadcast of the match, while Matthew Hayden said the pitch should not be able to turn as much, with as much variable bounce as there was so early.
The pitch has just been shown on the TV and it looks absolutely diabolical. It's day two for goodness sake. It looks like the entrance to the overflow car park on the grass after an entire season of footy.
