Simone Biles is competing at the U.S. Classic, where the top contenders for the Paris Olympics will face one another for the first time this year.
HARTFORD, Conn. — Simone Biles made her season debut Saturday evening at the U.S. Classic, the first competition on her path to the Paris Olympics. Biles is competing against two other past Olympic all-around champions, Sunisa Lee and Gabby Douglas, and the field is packed with other experienced gymnasts vying for spots on the team for Paris. The U.S. Classic is the first time all the top contenders will compete against one another this year.
Olympians Jade Carey and Jordan Chiles will also compete Saturday, along with several others who have won medals at world championships. Shilese Jones, a two-time all-around medalist at world championships, has lately solidified herself as the country’s second-best gymnast behind Biles. This competition will be Jones’s first of the season.
