He had an unbelievable passion for his work, first as a player and then as a coach.
"I think Barassi probably influenced the game, certainly in my lifetime, more than any one single person. "We have a lost a person that was, in my opinion, the most significant influence to the game of Australian rules football. "There's no doubt he changed the modern game. We were taken into an era of preparation and playing that involved every player on the ground, which wasn't the case earlier in the piece.
"It's now a totally different game, and he was part of the transformation from a 'kick and catch, stay in your positions' game to a fully involved, all people involved at the one time game, and with the passion and physicality that Ron brought."
