Scottish Tories leader Ruth Davidson quits over Brexit conflict and starting a family15:52Jeremy Corbyn has been speaking to journalists today on a trip to Scotland, where he's insisted MPs can still try to block a no-deal Brexit despite the PM's plan to suspend parliament.
When asked if it was ever considered in the last administration, he admits:"To be very detailed with you, there was a discussion about at one point whether we should prorogue briefly in order to start a new session, which might enable us to bring forward legislation that had not passed in the previous session [such as the Brext deal].
Afterwards, Mr McCord said:"I don't want a Brexit, more importantly I don't want a no-deal Brexit and also I don't want parliament suspended. "Previously we were due to back on October 8, now it's October 14, so it is a handful of days different."Irish ministers have distanced themselves from comments made by a government colleague who compared Boris Johnson to Oliver Cromwell.
A legal bid to prevent Prime Minister Boris Johnson from suspending Parliament will be heard in court on Thursday afternoon. But asked today about Boris Johnson's decision to suspend it for around a month, Amber Rudd simply says:"I am going to continue doing my job."McDonnell urges anti-no-deal protesters to remain peaceful
"As a former leader of the House of Commons in the coalition government who restored to the Commons some of the powers it had lost to the Executive, I am very unhappy at the timing and length of the prorogation, and its motivation," he says. She says"I stand absolutely foursquare behind the PM's attempt to bring back a deal that can pass in the House of Commons", praising his positivity and enthusiasm. She says a new Queen's Speech will allow a new vote on a Brexit deal - which could be the same as the current one. They had three chances before -"you blew every one of them, don't blow a fourth".
The MSP adds"as I look to the future" she sees a bid to force a general election, but that"I have to be honest" and the idea of being far from home and spending hundreds of hours away from her family fills her with"dread".Davidson says it has been"the privilege of my life" to serve during such a"remarkable time in politics".
"I hope and believe that industries as diverse as our fishing fleets and whisky producers have felt well represented by the Scottish Conservatives during this time."First government resignation announced - government source "It's clear the intention behind prorogation is to muzzle parliament from exerting any kind of scrutiny on Brexit.
"I don't see that the government's done anything unconstitutional or unlawful," says the Labour MP Jim Fitzpatrick, who defied orders from the party whip to vote against Theresa May's Brexit deal in March.
