Liverpool find themselves in a tricky dilemma as they head into the final stages of the summer transfer window as deadline day looms large
Liverpool are heading into the final stages of the summer transfer window threatening not to make any major moves under new boss Arne Slot . While the decision not to judge any members of the squad too early was noble, the Reds' slow start in the market could be about to backfire dramatically.
With the search for a No.6 on the backburner, Liverpool are currently linked with two England internationals - Newcastle United's Anthony Gordon and Crystal Palace's Marc Guehi. Both players had brilliant campaigns last season and the duo would improve the current squad. It is believed the Magpies value Gordon as highly as £100m which feels steep for Liverpool to pay on just one player alone. ECHO understands Newcastle had agreed a £75m deal with Liverpool for Gordon earlier this summer but the Magpies pulled out, with the assumption they want more money. There is no bottomless money pit at Anfield but perhaps that is the price Slot will need to pay to eventually replace Mohamed Salah.
With £100m in their back pocket, Eddie Howe would complete the deal for Guehi and simultaneously exit the race for Joe Gomez. Alternatively, should Liverpool sign Guehi they would be solving the issue of centre-back shortages. ECHO understands the England international is not a target for Liverpool as things stand.
