Liverpool are looking to keep the pace with Man City and Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table
Liverpool have been dealt something of a reality check this week, toiling away at both Luton Town and Toulouse.
It is a blessing for Jurgen Klopp’s side that such is their superiority to their Europa League group counterparts, it would be a major shock if they didn’t secure top spot against either LASK Linz or Union SG. If you want to be crowned Premier League champions these days, you cannot afford slip-ups with every draw even feeling like a defeat. And on those rare weekends where City don’t clinch maximum points, you can’t afford not to deliver a counter-blow.
While the likes of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are on the wrong side of 30, the rest of their spine has its peak years firmly ahead of it and will continue to improve together. If they remain in the hunt, then Klopp's men are arguably ahead of schedule. Win by three goals against the Bees and they would make second their own, overtaking the Gunners on goal-difference and moving level, temporarily at least, with City. After Liverpool’s clash with Brentford, Guardiola’s men then take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
