The city council has confirmed its annual budget for the new financial year
Council tax bills will go up across Liverpool to the maximum amount of 5% after being signed off by the city council. Amid continuing financial pressures around the local authority, Liverpool Council members have this evening given the green light to their annual budget, including tens of millions in cuts and a hike on household rates. The maximum tax increase could generate around £11m at a time when a third of the city’s finances are being spent solely in social care.
All properties were valued and put into bands from A to H based on their value in April 1991. More than half of Liverpool properties - 59% - are listed as band A. As per previous years, the council has received a single year settlement from the government, with an increase of core spending power at 10%. Cllr Robinson said this helped support investment in Streetscene services, school streets and the authority’s benefits maximisation team.
