Liverpool were looking to sign Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon in the summer but a move to Anfield never materialised
Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe has provided the latest on Anthony Gordon 's future amid continued speculation linking him with a move to Liverpool. The Reds agreed a £75m deal for the winger back in June. As part of the deal, Joe Gomez would have moved the other way in a separate £45m switch, but both deals collapsed after the Magpies raised funds to comply with the Premier League ’s Profit and Sustainability Rules by other means.
Asked for an update on Friday morning, Howe said: 'I always find those questions quite difficult because you are asking me to talk about something that hasn't happened with the potential of looking silly if it doesn't. 'We love Anthony, and we'd love him to commit his future here. We'd love him to stay long-term at Newcastle and continue the excellent start to his career. When you look at the broader piece of what he has done, he has been magnificent for us.
