A vaccination programme for the vulnerable and elderly is being sped up
Liverpool’s director of public health has urged people to “do the sensible things” as analysis is carried out on a new emerging strain of coronavirus.
Giving an update to Liverpool’s Health and Wellbeing Board, Professor Matt Ashton warned “covid hasn’t gone away” but stressed he did not expect the country to enter a new acute phase of the virus.Prof Ashton said a vaccination programme has been brought forward for the most vulnerable to flu and coronavirus as the emergence of the new strain continues. He said details around the new variant were still being developed, with the UK government due to update local authorities in “a couple of weeks.
