Strike action will close the International Slavery Museum, Maritime Museum, Museum of Liverpool, World Museum and Lady Lever Art Gallery

The news comes after hundreds of National Museum employees are set to strike over a pay dispute regarding a cost-of-living payment. The strike action means venues, including the International Slavery Museum, Maritime Museum, Museum of Liverpool, World Museum and Lady Lever Art Gallery, will be closed.

To try and "maintain" some museum services to visitors, a spokesperson has said that some shops and cafes will remain open, as well as the Museum of Liverpool on Thursday, February 22, only. The rest will remain closed for an "extended period."Museum of Liverpool café and shop and Sudley House café will be open. Almost 200 members of the Public and Commercial Services Union at National Museums Liverpool were balloted as to whether to leave their posts over a pay dispute regarding a cost-of-living payment. A resounding 94% of members have now backed taking direct action during a 28-day vote. The £1,500 payment, which the government was forced to make retrospectively as part of the pay offer for 2022/23, came as a result of this national campaign, which also doubled the original 2023/24 pay offer to at least 4.5%. As a result, it was announced in December that PCS members would be balloted on strike action.
