Steve Rotheram said 'Lime Street is absolutely rammed' and a new site would be required

A brand new station will be needed to connect Liverpool to Manchester as “Lime Street is absolutely rammed” according to the region’s Metro Mayor.

NPR was promised in the Conservatives' 2019 election manifesto as high-speed rail between Northern locations. Around 50 miles were initially designed to use track shared with HS2 but NPR plans were subsequently downgraded. “We don’t know whether the station at Piccadilly is part of the £12bn allocation, because if it is, that’s expected to be around £6bn.”
