Liverpool remain second after a controversial defeat with Tottenham Hotspur
Liverpool missed the chance to go top of the league as they slipped to a late defeat against Tottenham Hotspur. The Reds finished the game with nine men after red cards for Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota.
Jones' dismissal was controversial after seemingly slipping over the ball and connecting with Yves Bissouma. Jota's was more routine after being booked for a trip on Destiny Udogie before recklessly bringing down the Italian youngster minutes later. Although Liverpool may well feel aggrieved after the first yellow.AS IT HAPPENED: Spurs vs Liverpool Heung-min Son opened the scoring 10 minutes after Liverpool were reduced to 10 men. The Reds looked to claw a way back into the game and found the back of the net only for Luis Diaz's effort to be controversially ruled out for offside. Hwang Hee-chan scored the decisive goal as Pep Guardiola's side were handed their first defeat of the season. Arsenal kept the pressure on with a resounding win over AFC Bournemouth.
