Liverpool's Chinatown will come alive with the vibrant celebrations of Chinese New Year, featuring parades, traditional performances, food stalls, and more.
Liverpool's Chinese New Year parade will return to the city on Sunday, February 2. To mark the Lunar New Year, there will be city-wide festivities and events with the majority of the action located within the Chinatown area. Chinatown becomes a festival of sound and confetti with a packed programme of free events for everyone to enjoy for Chinese New Year.
Landmarks throughout the region, such as Sefton Park Palm House, the Royal Liver Building and Liverpool Town Hall, have been known to light up in red to signify good fortune. 2025 will celebrate the Year of The Wood Snake which brings wisdom, transformation, calmness and creativity. As we bid farewell to the year of the dragon, people can expect to reconnect and even find love in the Lunar New Year beginning on Wednesday, January 29. This year's Dragon and Lion parade starts at 11:15am and finishes at approximately 3:30pm. The Unicorn parade starts at 12:15pm and finishes at approximately 4:00pm. Both parades will move through Nelson Street, Duke Street, Berry Street and Bold Street in Liverpool city centre . Chinatown's surrounding areas will be closed from 6am until 10pm including Duke Street, Bold Street and Berry Street. Due to the latter's closure, access to businesses on Hanover Street will be restricted from Seel Street. There will also be plenty of Chinese food to sample from food stalls, art workshops with make-and-do activities as well as street theatre, storytelling and the funfair. A full event schedule is still to be announced
