“It will be nice to have a little Scouser. We’re really happy about that,” smiles Fabinho.
“They’re all really happy for me. I know if I need any advice I can go to them. Bobby has three kids, Ali has three as well so I know I can ask them for some tips. “For the second part of my vacation, I came back to Europe and went to Italy and Spain before returning to Liverpool. During the holidays I messaged some of the boys because I really missed them. It’s been so good to be back together with them for pre-season. I feel like I’m part of the Liverpool family. Liverpool feels like home now.”

His religious beliefs help him to stay grounded and keep things in perspective. “My faith has always been very important for me,” he says. “It’s the same for all my family and my wife too. I always try to do what I do normally. He took all the feedback on board and soon proved his worth, making the No 6 role his own as his debut season at the club ended with Champions League final glory against Tottenham in Madrid.“That’s why whenever we sign a new player I always try to help him as much as possible. Like Darwin now, his English isn’t very good, so I’m always trying to help him in training by explaining some situations to him.
“To hear that from the manager was really special. I just try to be the best player I possibly can for the team. I know I can be important and if that means I’m one of the best No 6s in the world then all good,” he says. Fabinho has had various nicknames over the course of his Anfield career. Klopp called him “Dyson” as a result of his ability to hoover things up, and Lijnders has labelled him as “The Lighthouse” as he provides direction for his team-mates and minimises danger. But to most of his team-mates, he’s “Flaco” .
“I was always saying to him, ‘Come on Sadio, stay here. You can win the Premier League and the Champions League right here, don’t leave’. But I think he had already made his mind up. We had to respect that. Liverpool were prepared for Mane’s exit having already secured the services of Nunez from Benfica for a fee that could rise to a club record £85million.
“That was really important, especially after losing Sadio. We knew Mo had to stay in the team and keep playing with us,” he says. “From the beginning of my time at Liverpool, Bobby and his family were really important for me and Ali too,” he says. “I’m focused on giving my maximum to play a good season for Liverpool but I can’t lie, the World Cup is also in my thoughts.”
“Last season as a club we played every game possible . That’s where you need a deep squad. Look at how important Taki was with the goals he scored in the cups. Every player was needed and that will be the same again.”
