Project benefits young people across Merseyside
Young people from the Liverpool City Region have taken part in a major ballet project thanks to funding from the Empire Theatre Trust and English National Ballet.
Young people in underprivileged areas across Merseyside have especially benefited from the scheme which involved 170 students from 12 secondary schools and colleges and culminated in a performance at the Empire this Spring. 'Ballet Explored' has seen ENB outreach staff working closely with the Liverpool Empire's renowned Creative Learning Department in recent months to drive passion and participation in an art form which has been an integral part of theatre's programme for many decades now.READ MORE: Celebrities join forces to mark Liverpool Everyman theatre anniversary
The trust, a charitable body which owns the iconic 99-year-old building in Lime Street, agreed a £7,500 grant to finance the project. Trust Chairman David Morgan said: 'Ballet nationally has had its funding issues recently. So the Trust has stepped up to help ensure support for those young people in and around our city who might not normally get their chance to experience this important dance form. We've been delighted to see the results of Ballet Explored coming to successful fruition on stage this year."
