🔴 Growing numbers of Conservative MPs are threatening to rebel against the Prime Minister over the proposed cut to the top rate of tax
The Finance Bill will not reach Parliament until 2023, a gamble that over the intervening months market turbulence will end and Kwasi Kwarteng’s economic reforms package will start to boost Britain’s GDP.
Other backbenchers are privately warning they will join the revolt unless Mr Kwarteng and the Prime Minister change course. One MP told: “I’m sure the Chancellor will be keen to take the time to explain his actions and reassure colleagues.” Labour is planning to work with the rebel Conservatives to bring forward the vote on tax cuts, and force the Chancellor to publish the economic forecasts compiled by the Office for Budget Responsibility which are currently likely to remain secret until the end of next month.
