'Where have you been?' 🧐

Liz Truss broke out from days of media silence to face a round of interviews on local radio today - and it did not go well.

Asked by the presenter for details of how shale gas extraction in the county could be affected by public feeling, Ms Truss said: “The Energy Secretary will be laying out in more detail exactly what that looks like, but it does mean making sure there is local support for going ahead. There are various detailed issues to work through but I can assure Mark Menzies that I will make sure there is local consent if we are to go ahead.

Energy bills A particularly concerning aspect of the interview round was a repeated assertion that no household would pay more than £2,500 for energy bills. In fact, the energy price cap introduced by Ms Truss limits the price per unit rather than the overall bill. “Of course we have a new Health Secretary, Therese Coffey. I do hope she will visit the Queen Elizabeth Hospital soon to see the situation there and make sure that action is taken because it simply isn’t good enough.”

On the related issue of the pound’s lost value, questions for the Prime Minister from BBC Radio Kent listeners included “What on earth were you thinking?”, “How can we ever trust the Conservatives with our economy again?” and “Are you ashamed of what you’ve done?”, the show’s presenter said.
