LloydsPharmacy to close all 237 of its branches in Sainsbury's stores today

All LloydsPharmacy branches inside supermarkets are set to close on Tuesday, putting an estimated 2,000 jobs at risk.

Staff at the axed LloydsPharmacy branches will lose their jobs ‘unless they have secured an alternative role’ at the company, according to the Pharmacists Defence Association union.Earlier this year it was reported that the company is also considering closing some of its standalone branches.

Its business is more exposed to downturns in the pharmacy industry than its rivals, Boots and Superdrug, which also have popular ranges of health and beauty products.A LloydsPharmacy spokesperson told Pharmacy Business of the closures: ‘Throughout the process, Lloyds Pharmacy has been committed to helping patients easily find a suitable alternative provision.’
