A political commentator has stated if the Coalition were unable to retain their Fadden seat after the by-election it could have 'problematic' repercussions for Peter Dutton as the stakes were 'very, very high'.
Australians are heading to polls for the federal election, which opened at 8am on Saturday, to vote on a replacement for former Coalition MP Stuart Robert who resigned from parliament in May.
“They usually are high for any Opposition Leader but when it’s a safe seat usually held by the LNP and it’s Peter Dutton’s home state. If the Coalition was to lose this then I would expect immediate pressure to be on Mr Dutton. But the by-election has 13 candidates running for the seat this time, an unusually high number for an electorate largely considered “safe” in the Liberals’ hands.
