Locals have described the appointment of the man who led the state’s COVID-19 response as Victorian of the Year a “kick in the guts”.
Professor Sutton was awarded the honour for his"significant and valuable contributions to the Victorian community" as part of the Victoria Day Council Awards on Friday morning.
Mr Sutton described it a “privilege” to guide Victorians through “the crisis of a lifetime” and described the achievements of the state as not his “but of the people of Victoria”. “He kept key documents secret, was part of failed management of COVID in Victoria: worlds longest lockdown, failed quarantine, Aus highest death rate.”
“What an absolute kick in the guts to all us Victorians who suffered under his draconian COVID rules,” said one Twitter user.
