As many are now in 'recovery mode' across Southeast Texas following this month's severe weather, there are some people locally who are now lending a hand to help out their fellow Texans.
"Hopefully this will get the word out so people can come help us. We need all the help we can get," says Ralph Lipps. Lipps is a Universal City resident who volunteers with the Red Cross. He has been deployed in Conroe, about an hour north of Houston, for the last two weeks helping with recovery efforts from recent flooding.
"I've seen cars turned over, I've seen houses, like mobile homes, turned over from the rush of the water. It's just been a horrible, horrible sight," says Lipps. Now Southeast Texas is dealing with another natural disaster as winds of up to 100mph slammed the area Thursday evening. "The disaster response is probably, I would say most certainly, going to increase now with yesterday's storm," says Lipps. And the mission of volunteers is to help those going through so much.
"We supply rakes, shovels, tarps, clean up kits, water," says Lipps. He stresses the importance this work does and how grateful residents are for the assistance.
