Locals in the picturesque Lancashire village of Edenfield could win a referendum vote on the future of housing where they live.
The area has been earmarked for hundreds of new homes - and now residents could be given a say on whether a new 'neighbourhood plan' should be consulted when Rossendale Council looks at new developments.
The forum's defined area follows the A56 on the west, Dearden Brook on the south, Michael Wife Lane and Gincroft Lane on the east and Fish Rake Lane on the north. The neighbourhood forum was officially designated in 2018 but designation only lasts for five years. It successfully applied for re-designation to 2028. Forum membership is open to people aged 18 and over who live or work in Edenfield.
Later the plan states: "We believe there are opportunities in Edenfield to influence the quality of future development, improve the look and feel of the village, preserve and maintain historical characteristics of the village and surrounding countryside, enhance the quality of green spaces, improve access and movement, and pro-actively plan for housing delivery in a manner that respects the village’s rural character.
