It wouldn't be a major cycling event in the UK without locals taking to the internet to complain about road closures...

It wouldn't be a major cycling event visiting the United Kingdom without complaints from locals unable to access the usual road network for a few hours, this time with road closures for the Gran Fondo causing concerns, some residents plotting a"100-mile diversion" they would need to take just to cross town during the event.

And while some residents were keen to point out the information around road closures "has been circulating for months" and accused their fellow townsfolk of just"liking to moan about anything these days", others were quick to speak their mind about the event cutting the town in two. Another said:"It doesn't matter how you dress it up it's a disgrace in my opinion to have the town completely closed down so a bunch of cyclists yet again can punish their backsides to give their legs a treat. I'm not in favour of it. If they want a race it doesn't have to be so disruptive to so many places."

"I'm annoyed at the council, mostly, for their lack of engagement, lack of consideration of people who own a business, last-minute changes to routes and no bus diversions etc," another added.
