This permanent hair removal gadget is lockdown's no1 beauty gadget AND it's half price. But is it worth the cash?
We’ve been trying everything DIY, from box dyes and gel manicures to bathroom facials, teeth whitening and hair ‘rebonding’ — in fact, the Olaplex hair strengthening treatment loved by Kim Kardashian has just been named by Clearpay as its online retailers’ most popular lockdown beauty buy.
Our beauty director Lynne Hyland, who has tested the Braun device, reveals what you need to know before shelling out Sounds great… Yes, but it’s not suitable for everyone. IPL is its most effective when there’s a big contrast between the skin and hair colour. Does it hurt? In my experience, no. There’s a tiny flash of heat as the device fires on the skin, and sensitive areas like underarms do have the odd hotspot but it’s minor, fleeting and far, far less uncomfortable than waxing or epilating. The worst bit is the slightly nauseating smell of burning hair.
It’s not the latest model, which is even quicker, with Braun claiming lower legs take less than five minutes. However, I did still have a reasonable amount of hair there, which I’m filing under the “stubborn” category.
