Avanti West Coast and TransPennine Express have asked customers to make alternative arrangements with 'widespread disruption' expected on Friday after the Met Office issued a rare red weather warning for very strong winds.
The Met Office has issued a red weather warning for parts of Dumfries and Galloway, with gusts of wind of up to 100mph possible.
An Avanti statement read: “We’re advising customers not to travel north of Preston or on our North Wales route on Friday, January 24, due to the expected disruption by Storm Éowyn. “If you are due to travel north of Preston or on our North Wales route on Friday, January 24, then your existing ticket can be used on any Avanti West Coast service via the same route from Thursday, January 23, until the end of service on Sunday, January 26.“Alternatively, if you abandoned your journey as a result of the disruption, then you can claim a fee free refund from where you bought your ticket.
