Logan Sargeant isn't feeling too down after his Japanese GP crash, and James Vowles believes confidence, or lack thereof, played no part in the incident...
Logan Sargeant has explained what went wrong as the American driver crashed his newly repaired Williams in first practice at Suzuka.
With no spare chassis available to the Williams drivers, with the timeline now updated to suggest Miami as the earliest chance to have a third chassis available, the good news for Sargeant is that the damage in the Japan crash won’t prevent him from taking part for the rest of the weekend.“It’s a bit of a silly error, to be honest, one that I shouldn’t be making – especially in FP1.”
“He was running the older front wing when he had his off, so no damage was done either there. So, honestly, it’s not the end of the world.”Williams team boss James Vowles later explained Sargeant’s mishap, saying that the American had made an error in judging where his car was in relation to the tarmac through such a fast section of the circuit.
A key topic in the lead-up to the Japanese GP weekend has been the question marks over Sargeant’s confidence, given his team chose to take him out of his own intact car in Australia in order to give it to Albon. “I’m not seeing any lack of confidence from him. He’s a consummate professional in every sense, and he wants to perform at the very highest level.
