Albert Sambi Lokonga, on loan at Sevilla from Arsenal, expresses his strong desire to make the move permanent at the end of the season. He highlights his enjoyment and growth at Sevilla, contrasting it with his limited opportunities at Arsenal.
Albert Sambi Lokonga has expressed his desire to make his move from Arsenal to Sevilla a permanent one at the end of the season. Lokonga joined Arsenal from Anderlecht in 2021 for a fee of £17 million and had a promising debut season, making 24 appearances across all competitions. However, fierce competition for midfield positions under Mikel Arteta meant regular starts were limited. Consequently, he was loaned to London rivals Crystal Palace for the second half of the 2022/23 campaign.
A temporary stint at Luton followed before Lokonga secured a season-long loan move to Sevilla last summer. At Sevilla, he has rediscovered his form, becoming a key player in the midfield under manager Garcia Pimienta. Despite having 18 months remaining on his Arsenal contract, Lokonga has indicated he has little interest in returning to the Emirates Stadium. 'I feel very good. I’m growing and I feel better with each game,' he told Spanish publication Muchodeporte. 'Since leaving Anderlecht, Sevilla is the club where I feel very, very good.' 'I want to stay but it’s not just my decision. It’s early days and we’ll see each other at the end of the season.' Reports last summer suggested Sevilla have an option to buy Lokonga permanently for €12 million (£10 million) at the end of the season. It remains to be seen if they will activate this clause. Despite a recent dip in form, with only one win in their last six games, Lokonga remains optimistic about Sevilla's chances. 'We shouldn’t talk about Europe at the moment. We have to search and find our best level every day because we have a lot of potential,' he added. 'When it’s over, we’ll see where we are. The dressing room is always calm. 'We are sure that we have a good team and the youth team can help us. We are confident because we have quality players.'
