Albert Sambi Lokonga has expressed his strong desire to make his move from Arsenal to Sevilla permanent at the end of the season. Lokonga joined Arsenal in a £17million transfer from Anderlecht in 2021, showcasing promise in his debut season with 24 appearances across all competitions. However, he faced stiff competition for a starting spot under Mikel Arteta , leading to loan spells with Crystal Palace and Luton Town.
His recent season-long loan at Sevilla has proven to be a turning point, with Lokonga rediscovering his joy for the game and establishing himself as a key player in Garcia Pimienta's midfield. Despite having 18 months remaining on his Arsenal contract, Lokonga has made it clear that he sees his future at Sevilla. He told Spanish publication Muchodeporte, 'I feel very good. I’m growing and I feel better with each game. Since leaving Anderlecht, Sevilla is the club where I feel very, very good. I want to stay but it’s not just my decision. It’s early days and we’ll see each other at the end of the season.' Reports last summer indicated that Sevilla has an option to buy Lokonga outright for €12m (£10m) at the end of the season. Though Sevilla has faced a challenging period recently, with only one win in their last six games, Lokonga remains confident in the team's ability to turn things around. He stressed the importance of focusing on their performance and finding their best level each day, while acknowledging the club's need to secure European qualification. 'We shouldn’t talk about Europe at the moment. We have to search and find our best level every day because we have a lot of potential. When it’s over, we’ll see where we are. The dressing room is always calm. We are sure that we have a good team and the youth team can help us. We are confident because we have quality players.'
