Conservative members of the London Assembly requested the GLA 's monitoring officer to examine potential violations of the authority's rules regarding gifts and hospitality.
The inquiry stems from Khan receiving six tickets valued at approximately £3,000 from a private events company for the concert at Wembley Stadium on August 15th. Conservative Assembly Member Susan Hall wrote to the GLA's monitoring officer, Rory McKenna, alleging that the mayor's actions appeared to 'contravene' the established procedures for gifts and hospitality. Hall raised concerns about the mayor accepting hospitality from a private company with prior ties to City Hall, where Khan's office is located. The Tories sought clarification on whether a technical issue could have legitimately prevented a timely declaration of the tickets and why subsequent changes were made to the register. They also inquired about the rules governing the acceptance of gifts and hospitality from contractors and external suppliers who have held contracts with the GLA.A spokesperson for the GLA stated that the monitoring officer reviewed the complaint against the mayor and will not be investigating three out of four allegations. However, an investigation will proceed to determine if Khan exercised an appropriate level of caution when deciding to accept the tickets. Ms. Hall expressed disappointment that the monitoring officer is not addressing the mayor's late declaration of the tickets, initial mis-declaration of the donor, the undervaluation of the tickets, or the fact that the donor was a GLA contractor. A spokesperson for Sir Sadiq Khan affirmed that the mayor has no involvement in the procurement process for GLA events or the tendering of these contracts. The mayor's office pledged to ensure all proper procedures are followed and expressed willingness to explain the approach taken in this specific instance
