The Met's Directorate of Professional Standards said that the Wednesday morning incident was due to 'human error'.
A busy road in London was closed for more than 11 hours after ammunition fell from the roof of a police car.
The ammunition had been placed on the roof of the armed response vehicle on Wednesday morning but fell off as officers drove towards a firearms operation. It resulted in a long closure of the eastbound A13 near Prince Regent Lane in east London after a"quantity of ammunition and ancillary items" fell onto the carriageway, police said.AdvertisementThe officer concerned has been spoken to and will be subject to an internal learning process, a spokesman added.
Police apologised for disruption caused to those travelling on the A13 and thanked motorists for their cooperation during the closure.
