It’s not all roses in the Big Smoke London is hailed for its bright city lights, groundbreaking transport system and countless cultural activities, but it’s not all roses. Characterised by bright green trams, Boxpark and an intimidatingly large Ikea, Croydon is forever getting a bad rep – and now it’s been named the city’s ‘most depressing area’ in a poll.
There’s no shortage of green space either, offering up Wandle Park, Lloyd Park and Addington Hills. Croydon is forever getting a bad rep Elsewhere, Londoners have become increasingly disillusioned with life in the Big Smoke – but seemingly have no plans to leave. In a survey that asked 1,100 people living in London about their thoughts on life in the capital, 65% reported that housing had got worse and 67% believed that the NHS and other public services had declined since the beginning of 2023.
