Monte Kiffin, who spent 25 years as an NFL coach and won a Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, died Thursday at age 84, according to a report from ESPN.com.
Kiffin’s son, Lane, is the head football coach as the University of Mississippi and was serving as a defensive analyst there. Monte Kiffin, 84, peacefully passed away today in Oxford surrounded by family and friends. As his grandson Knox said, he’s free of pain and smiling down on us from above.Kiffin spent 13 season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he devised the “Tampa Two” defense alongside head coach Tony Dungy. The Bucs won the 2002 Super Bowl championship during his tenure.
“Monte Kiffin was a beloved and iconic member of the Buccaneers family, and our entire organization mourns his loss today,” the Glazer Family, which owns the Buccaneers, said in. “As a coach, Monte was a true innovator who got the best out of his players and helped create one of the signature defenses of the early 2000s.
