fan in your life and you’re trying to find them the perfect gift—birthday, Father’s or Mother’s Day, early Christmas shopping—you can’t do much better than Drop’s gorgeous Riders of Rohan keyboard.
The sturdily built mechanical keyboard comes in either green or brown and both options are simply stunning. The anodized aluminum chassis has weight to it, making it not just a pretty sight but one that feels very premium—which is good given the $200 price-tag.Here’s a closer look at the right side of the board, where you can see the lovely artwork.
Fortunately, this was not at all the case. The Riders of Rohan keys are spaced perfectly and typing feels pretty good. I sayrather than great because I’m used to mechanical keyboards with a lot more spring and click. I like that tactile feedback. When I’m gaming, I want everyone to hear my keyboard through their headsets. It’s the clackety-clack keyboard equivalent of a V8 engine thrumming to life.
The Riders of Rohan switches are simply not that. It feels fine, and it’s laid out well and it’s a lot easier to read the keys than the Ringwraith board, which is all in Black Speech. But it’s not as lively a board as I’d like, and the Holy Panda X switches are not hot-swappable.Two other considerations: First, this is an 87-key keyboard and does not have a tenkey. That’s important to a lot of people.
The only other minor quibble I have is the backlighting, which is a fairly uninspired white with no RGB options. This isn’t a big deal to me, but it’s worth noting. It would be nice if you could change the color to green or blue, for instance, especially on such a premium piece of gear.I absolutely love this keyboard and I think you will too. I love all the little detailed icons on the keys. I love the rich green color, though the brown looks every bit as stylish.
