Sir Martin Moore-Bick said documentary evidence supported claims by officials that deregulation was 'a dominant influence' in government thinking
After coming to power in 2010, the Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government, and its Tory successor elected in 2015, pursued a deregulation push, including a “one in, two out” policy for new regulations – dubbed the “red tape challenge”.
Lord Pickles told the inquiry that he would have viewed it as “ludicrous” if civil servants thought the drive for deregulation covered building regulations, but Sir Martin said documentary evidence supported claims by officials that deregulation was “a dominant influence within the department”.
