The NHS saved her life, now Lorraine Kelly wants you to nominate your health hero in The Sun's Who Cares Wins awards
has nothing but praise for the NHS, who she credits with saving her life after a horseriding accident in 2012.
“And more recently, the amazing staff at Hairmyres hospital in East Kilbride have gone above and beyond the call of duty taking care of my dad John.”Lorraine says: “His ankle had somehow become completely detached and it was a complicated operation which meant he had to have a very large metal plate inserted in his leg.CAT and Mike Blewitt had the audience in tears last year when they told of losing their triplets days after their 20-week scan.
“It was very tough on her, but the staff did their best to give reassurance and to answer our questions. I should stress this had nothing to do with me being ‘on the telly’. I saw them do that for every single patient, even the difficult and demanding ones. “There have been times when a nurse sat with me, which made my day. And times a surgeon stayed 12 hours after they should have left, to perform an urgent op on me."Dad’s now back at home and is getting stronger every day. He’s not quite out of the woods, but he was lucky to get such excellent treatment from the NHS.
