The entrance has since been deemed safe to use
Photos have shown the extent of the damage caused when a lorry crashed into the main entrance of Wollaton Park. Structural damage was caused to a wall at the Wollaton Road entrance of the park, which cars use to park.
It happened on Sunday, July 31, and visitors were temporarily advised to use an alternative entrance. In a statement, Nottingham City Council, which manages the historic site, said teams fenced off the area and that structural engineers had since deemed the vehicle entrance safe. The council said: "A vehicle entering Wollaton Park on Sunday afternoon unfortunately damaged part of the wall at the entrance. Our onsite teams responded rapidly to stabilise and secure the affected portion of the wall, fenced off the area and put up signs to an alternative gate, to ensure the safety of visitors."Structural engineers have now assessed the wall and deemed the vehicle entrance safe for visitors to use once again, with fencing being used as a temporary gate.
The incident happened a week after Spendour Festival took place as thousands enjoyed two days of live music and performances from the likes of Richard Ashcroft, Supergrass, Anne-Marie and The Human League. Pedestrians can also enter the park from the Beeston Lodge Entrance off Derby Road. Lime Tree Avenue off Middleton Boulevard also leads to the site.
