There were dozens of Memorial Day events throughout San Diego County to honor services members killed
From downtown to the top of Mt. Soledad, San Diegans honored military men and women for their sacrifices and service this Memorial Day. It was a solemn start to the day on the USS Midway Museum with overcast skies and speeches to remember the fallen. The annual event, held on the storied aircraft carrier, was attended by more than 300 people, many of whom were veterans. Vietnam War-era U.S.
Other events to commemorate the day included a dove release in Solana Beach, a ceremony with patriotic music at Fort Rosecrans National Ceremony and various ceremonies in Coronado, Del Mar, Encinitas, El Cajon, Escondido, Fallbrook, Oceanside and Rancho Bernardo. The annual observance at the Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial took on a special importance Monday afternoon, honoring Marines of the Third Battalion, Fifth Marine Regiment .
